June - the first pocket she ever picked

It's short, but I hope you like it!

It was morning, and she was on a busy street with Byron watching nearby. She stood slightly off to the side, watching the swarms of people go right by her.

There were hundreds of people. There those who were obviously wealthy, those who were try to be obviously wealthy and those who just didn't care. There were people who were trying to impress others, to draw attention to themselves, and some who were trying to stay in the background. The amount of people would have been overwhelming if Byron had not taught her which ones to look for and which ones to ignore.

"Don't go for the rich ones; they know better than to carry cash around, you have to go for those who are trying to impress. They are the arrogant ones; the same ones who are the easiest to deceive and the ones who will give you the most reward."

June took the advice to heart. She zeroed in on her target, a boy in his older teens, with the obvious bulge in his back pocket.

She slipped from her place, melting in the crowd right behind the kid. He had headphones over his ears and she could hear the music pulsing even above the busy traffic sounds around her. She quickened her pace and bumped forcefully in the kid. As her mouth exclaimed rushed apologies, her two middle fingers pulled the wallet from the pocket without him even knowing.

She worked her way back to the edge of the crowd and met Byron's eye from his perch. His smile of pride and tilt of his head made her face glow.

She had done it, she had learned his lessons; she had brought to heart everything he had ever told her. She knew that she would pass all his tests and when she did, she would become his bride.
